Daniel Dubois is going on Saturday’s rematch against Oleksandr USYK as a steep underdog, but a British box icon has mapped its potential route to success
The chances can be stacked against Daniel Dubois in his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk. But box icon Johnny Nelson has identified one route to a potential upset.
The former King of the Cruiserweight Division believes that following the same game plan that led to his vicious knockout victory over Anthony Joshua will be the key. Dubois, 27, has already lost to UsyK once in 2023 when he was stopped controversially, after he had brought the Ukrainian to the ground with a body shot that was considered too low.
After an appeal to that decision, he has since risen in shape and the IBF World Heavyweight title before he completed Joshua in September 2024.
Despite the fifth round, ‘Dynamire’ is still not supported to avenge his UYK defeat, at least according to the bookmakers. But Nelson, who held the WBO Cruiserweight Belt from 1999 to 2006, believes that an upset cannot be excluded – no matter how unlikely it is.
“I think Daniel Dubois has one chance and that is the chance of a puncher,” Nelson said exclusively Mirror fightingThanks to newbettingoffers.co.uk. “And everyone and everyone will know that he has the chance of a puncher. And he had a great chance of the puncher with Anthony Joshua. And once he got him once, that punch was done for him.
“Against Oleksandr Usyk, Usyk is technically superior to any other heavyweight that is currently there. And Daniel Dubois has got the chance of a puncher.”
Dubois came out of the weapons when he came across Joshua last year, successfully surprised the Olympian at Wembley. He successfully settled AJ at the end of the first, third and fourth rounds before he finally arrived in fifth place and put him down forever.

It would be foolishness to believe that exactly the same strategy would have the same effect on USYK, a former Cruiserweight and distant Wilier opponent. Utyk has finally united the heavyweight division by using its smaller frame and benefit in speed, whereby they themselves have been beaten twice each Joshua and Tyson Fury.
That said, ‘De Kat’ is approaching the end of his boxing lives after he has presented his date with Dubois, his penultimate fight will be. And that recognition could work for the much younger Dubois if his opponent has no dedication at all.
“So when usyk talks about retirement, now that seed has started to grow. Once you start talking publicly, the seed started to grow,” Nelson added. “And again, he can really take it with him, but in the coming years, when he walked away, [he’ll] Think: “Maybe I’ll just come back there again.”
“[Wladimir] Klitschko, he thought about doing it last year! You would never think these guys would do it, but you just think: ‘One [fight]. “So with Usyk who talks about it, I believe he probably thinks,” I’m tired, I want to enjoy the attributes of my success. ” “
It is only good that USYK has to do this given his exploits in the ring. He has successfully put himself in the conversation as one of the best heavyweights of Boxing of all time after such an unbridled success after his weight step.
But while he is preparing to turn 39 in January, it is of course only that the thoughts of the veteran retire. And although his appetite to succeed in the ring can be just as vorous as always, Dubois’s edge in physicality (and possibly fitness) could change the result this time to his advantage.
Anyone who is familiar with the ability of Dynamite will know the Londoner, who has earned 21 of his 22 fights by Knock -Out, has the necessary power that is needed to finish everyone on his day. And for that reason Nelson cannot rule the IBF title holder completely because he tries to do what people like Fury and Joshua could not (twice).
