It wouldn’t be UFC fight week without someone taking some heat. Daniel Cormier, former two-weight world champion and current UFC commentator, was caught discussing the heavyweight division with current champion Tom Aspinall… and to say he doesn’t think highly of the division is an understatement. Aspinall released footage on his YouTube channel, which showed that DC wasn’t gold-plating the division, to say the least.
Daniel Cormier took Aspinall aside and said:
“With these matchups in this division, the kind of run you can do can be crazy and it can change your life.”
We know that the heavyweight division does not have a rich history of a longtime champion making multiple defenses. Former champion Stipe Miocic holds the heavyweight record with just three. Cormier implies that Aspinall has a chance to go on and possibly beat that record.
Daniel Cormier denounces Jailton Almeida
Daniel Cormier continued his conversation with the heavyweight champion and further said:
“I mean, what’s up, Almeida fights eh, Jailton can’t fight”.
When Aspinall asked him who DC thought would win, he didn’t answer. Aspinall said he believed Alexander Volkov would win the fight and Cormier responded: “Yes, but you defeated him.”
He also said:
“You’re on the verge of a mad man. Join us, but keep working hard, you have to keep working hard.”
Aspinall assured DC that he “I work harder now than I ever have“.

Towards the end of the exchange, Daniel Cormier and Tom Aspinall appeared to ridicule the former opponent Volkan Oezdemir. Aspinall joked and said that DC “I couldn’t believe your luck” when he was paired with Oezdemir, to which both men laughed and DC responded with “Did I win the lottery son?”.
UFC321
UFC 321 kicks off this weekend from Abu Dhabi, UAE. The headline fight sees Tom Aspinall meet Ciryl Gane for the UFC heavyweight championship in what many see as an intriguing contest. Both men are fast, light-footed and questions will be answered on Saturday evening.
The co-main event will see the vacant strawweight title on the line in a rematch between Mackenzie Dern and Virna Jandiroba. Dern got the nod in the first fight, but Jandiroba comes into the fight in better shape.
Elsewhere, Mario Bautista and Umar Nurmagomedov meet at bantamweight for a potential number one contender’s bout. Jailton Almeida and Alexander Volkov also meet in an exciting heavyweight bout.
