As you might expect, Dana White has high hopes for the historic UFC event at the White House. It is expected that the UFC CEO will begin matchmaking in earnest for the highly anticipated card this week, with the fights possibly wrapping up by the weekend. Since the UFC White House event was announced by President Donald Trump, there has been a lot of speculation about what the final product will look like, with numerous fighters campaigning to be on the card. Regardless of what the final lineup looks like, White expects the event to be a boon for broadcast partner Paramount.
“We’re going to find out this week. This is a unique event,” White recently told CBS Sports. “It’s something that will never happen again. Building this card – we had a video rendering of what it looks like. We literally have the trees that are on the South Lawn. We’re going to know exactly where the sun is until it sets. So all the logistics are done. We believe this is going to be the most watched UFC event ever.”
Building the fan base
In addition to attracting the UFC’s usual fan base, White believes the card will help create new fans – in part because the scale of the event will bring a whole new audience to watch the fight.“It will introduce a lot of people to the game who have never seen it before,” White said. “And when you talk about me, my management team, the staff that works here, the media that covers us and the fighters, this is going to be the most unique, amazing night of our entire career. The fighters walk out of the Oval Office. I bet a lot of the people who cover the sport and are fans of the sport have probably never been to the White House before. And of course the fighters.”
“So this is a very special, unique night. And you know, when we’re going to do something, I like to deliver, and I like to deliver big. So it’s going to be special.”
The UFC White House card is expected to take place on June 14 and will likely air on Paramount+. It could also potentially be simulcast on CBS.
