Mixed emotions greeted Damon Wilson in learning that he would get a chance at the UFC as part of Dana White’s Contender Series This year.
“I had been thinking about this moment for a long time, thought of that specific phone call for a long time. So I immediately got excited about the moon, but I came down a bit a bit quickly, just because the job was not done,” Wilson said (9-2) told The best Turtle MMA podcast on Cageside Press prior to the fight. “I will still not have those three letters that night on that glove for that fight. So you know that there is still work to do. A good hard training camp and a difficult fist fight for me. I want to sign that contract, I don’t rest on my laurels yet.”
Wilson has lately competing for Cage Warriors, an American who are fighting for a British promotion and has good success. With back-to-back finishes by knee attacks, the call for DWCs was not exactly a surprise.
“I have been expecting the call for some time, only because of my fighting style. I knew that I had to come on a win reak; I went on a three-fighter win racing, two kos in a row, both Ko’s were quite cheeky,” Wilson recalled. “I headed a main event, I fought in the short term.
“I knew that the eyes would probably be on me. That is the reason that I took that short boost,” he added.

“I think he is now top in Brazil in the featherweight division, so I think he has a good reputation there,” Wilson acknowledged. “It has probably been a long time since he gets this chance, but there is no man who will stand in front of me on August 26 who will take this moment from me.”
