NEW YORK (AP)-Following the government of New York Andrew Cuomo on Monday that he will campaign for mayor of New York City as an independent candidate and remains in a busy field that runs against rising left-wing democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani.
In a video, Cuomo, who ran a bruising loss in Democratic Primary last month, to Mamdani, that he made another point to fight the progressive Mamdani, which he said: “offers slick slogans but no real solutions.”
“The fight to save our city is not over,” said Cuomo. “Only 13 percent of New Yorkers voted in the primary June. The general elections are in November and I am in to win it.”
The sitting mayor Eric Adams also runs as independent in the general elections and Curtis Sliwa founder of the Guardian Angels Anti-Crime Patrol from the 70s state again on the Republican line.
People opposite the progressive agenda of Mamdani, which includes higher taxes on the rich, have called on donors and voters to unite behind a single candidate for the November elections. They fear that several candidates will distribute the anti-Mamdani mood, which increases the chances of the Democrat to win.
The Mamdani campaign responded to the announcement of Cuomo by saying that the former government and mayor are co-Ircy to “billionaires and republicans”, while the democratic nominated person remains focused on affordability issues.
“That is the choice in November,” said campaign spokesperson Jeffrey Lerner in a statement.
The decision of Cuomo to continue in the race is the last chapter in his comeback attempt, launched almost four years after he took as a governor in 2021 after a barrage of accusations of sexual harassment. He denied misconduct during the campaign and claimed that the scandal was driven by politics.
Cuomo was treated as the supposed leader for a large part of the Democratic Primary, with the former governor who had deep political experience, universal name recognition and a Juggernaut fundraising operation. He limited media interviews, kept few unwritten events and avoided mixing with voters.
That strategy contrasted with Mamdani’s energetic campaign at street level, aimed at affordability issues. The 33-year-old gathered a legion of young volunteers who covered the city to build support, while the smart social media persona of the candidate won him national appliance.
Cuomo was left with Mamdani. The final results that were released after the city had completed its arranged choice of trades showed that Mamdani defeated the former governor by 12 percentage points.
Despite the democratic primary loss, Cuomo had also qualified to walk on an independent ballot in November under a party that he made called “Fight and Lever”.
While he weighed whether he should stay as independent, Cuomo began to lose support from traditional allies. MASTY BREASS supported Mamdani and the Reverend of Sharpton, an influential black leader, urged Cuomo to step aside.
Some employees with a deep bag are now tailored to Adams, who runs as independent. Although he is still a democrat, Adams withdrew from the Primary shortly after a federal judge had rejected a corruption case against him at the request of the Ministry of Justice of President Donald Trump, with the argument that the case had put him offside to campaign.
Cuomo, 67, served as a governor for more than ten years and modeled himself as a social progressive democrat that achieved things. He pushed through the legislation that legalized and taught massive infrastructure projects, such as a three-mileage bridge over the Hudson River that he called after his father.
The national profile of Cuomo peaked in the early days of the country’s corona virus outbreak during his daily briefings on television. The governor wanted strict warnings for people to wear masks with genuine expressions of concern for his elderly mother or brotherly chatter with Chris Cuomo, a TV journalist.
His reputation was soon infected when it appeared that the official count of the State of Death in nursing home had excluded many victims who had been transferred to hospitals before collapsing.
Cuomo resigned shortly after the attorney general of New York had issued the results of a study that discovered that he had sexually harassed at least 11 women.
