Cubs to call Kevin Alcantara, option Owen Caissie

The CUBS will replace one outfield prospect for another on Monday, such as ESPN’s Jesse Rogers report that Kevin Alcantara will be called from Triple-A Iowa and Owen Caission is sent back to Triple-A. No further transaction is required because Alcantara is already on the schedule of 40 people.

Alcantara made his Major League debut last September, appeared in three games for the Cubs at the end of the 2024 season and got one hit in 10 record performances. This remains the only exposure to the main class of Alcantara, because he spent the entire 2025 campaign in Iowa. After beating well in 35 Triple-A competitions in 2024, Alcantara kept it going this year, with a .266/.349/.470 Slash Line and 17 home runs over 430 record performances this season.

Alcantara, a regular one on the top 100 prospect on prospect now, was 71st in the ranking of the preseason of Baseball America and 90th on the list of MLB Pipeline. Despite his solid figures this year, Alcantara actually fell from the updates of both points of sale in the middle season, although both BA and Pipeline each have still arranged the outfielder in the deep Chicago Farm system. The largest red flag is his strikeout percentage of 29.8% at Triple-A, because his power potential and hard contact capacity reduces the large amount of Swing-and-Miss in his game, and evaluators also note that Alcantara is only really productive against fastballs.

It seems likely that Alcantara would have had a longer look in the Majors if he was not so deep in a team in outfielders. Between Kyle TuckerPete Crow-ArmstrongIan HappAnd Seiya Suzuki (If part -time of and regular DH) All stay healthy and productive, only four other players received at any time in the Wigleyville outfield during the 2025 season. Utilities Willi CastroJon BertiAnd Vidal Brjan Each received a handful of matches in the outfield, and Caiss made seven performances on the grass during the 11 general games of his first Major League call-up.

Caissie received 25 Pa and hit .208/.240/.375 during the start of six of his 11 games. The lack of playing time was not a surprise given the busy nature of Chicago’s outfield, but the fairly fast relegation contributes to the question why Caission was precisely called in the first place. Alcantara brings more defensive versatility, because he can play the center field, while Caissie is a corner fan.

The use of top perspectives such as banking depth is not exactly ideal, although the Cubs are somewhat stuck (if that is the right term) between their twin desires to let their small Leaguers play every day, and also have the best active schedule possible. No matter how limited these cameies have been, giving Alcantara or caation any experience in the large competitions can be favorable prior to their possible recording on a play -off selection, or if an injury arose for one of the outfield tribes of the cubs.
