Philadelphia – Ian Happ in the sixth inning of the batter in the sixth inning was aware that he had not had much success in his career against Phillies Reliever Taijuan Walker. But he expected something inside.
When he got it on the third pitch, it didn’t matter that the cutter moved on his hands. He stayed in the field and drove it in the right field for a two-run Homer.
‘[Walker has] Has that cutter really done well, out, out [the plate] That he threw there, but the zinc shell starts a bit with you and comes back, “said Happ after the 8-4 victory of the Cubs in Citizens Bank Park.” And so I was looking for something in that window and I just responded to the cutter.
“When I’m in a good place, some of those things just happen where there is just a reaction to those like that. And it felt really good.”
It was Happ’s second homer from the match-the first was from starter Mick Abel in the third inning and his first multi-homer match of the season. In two days he has taken three times against the Phillies and four times in less than a week.
“I think everyone had a lot of confidence that this would come,” said Craig Counsell manager. “It’s nice to see, because this is what makes a good team. This is what a good attack is, is that Ian cannot click, and then he clicks and it wins a game.”
Happ has kept his on-base percentage relatively stable with a good running speed, but until recently did not drove the ball to its normal standard. He was also put aside for a week and a half in mid -May with an oblique injury, so that his rhythm on the record was further challenged.
‘It’s nice that if you are struggling, the team still wins [and] Is still producing, “said Happ.” That’s nice. If you don’t get base for the boys who drive in a set of runs, that’s a fuck. “
The attack of the Cubs had cooled a bit during this road trip, albeit against starting elite – the Nationals ‘Mackenzie Gore, the Tarik Skubal of the Tigers and Jack Fraerty and the Phillies’ Zack Wheeler. They are excluded this trip twice and double their seasonal total for Shutouts. And by scoring only 25 runs in their last seven games (3.57 points per match), they lost their status as the best run-scoring attack by Baseball and they came in second place in second place in runs per game (5.55) behind the Dodgers (5.60).
On Tuesday evening, however, they were back to their normal form and they got contributions up and down the line -up. Dansby Swanson and Michael Busch houses too. Reese McGuire hit an RBI Double of the No. 9 place in the Line -Up. And for the second time in a week Happ was the striking attack.
In the meantime, the Cubs were also back to ensure the details about defense and about the BasePaths to support another glowing performance of the bullpen.
Good outfield defense had been a positive theme this trip. But on Tuesday, for the second day in a row, the Rookie -Infielder Matt Shaw was the brightest on third base. At the bottom of the ninth he made a bald handle on the flight to throw away fast Johan Rojas.
Happ praised the defensive consistency of Shaw.
“Some of those plays don’t look as cool as they are,” said Happ. “Those he shed shortly, he makes the right to read and gets the right hop. But that bald hand is special. That was a jaw on the floor.”
On the basey side, McGuire made a remarkable game just before Home’s Homer, hit a ground ball to the second but pressed along the line to prevent a collection of ending doubles.
“In this line -up, in particular, if you can extend a collection with one, we have the chance to score,” Happ said. “And that is a perfect example of it.”
