The possible swap between Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson, which once sounded like a wild dream, has now turned into a real and serious negotiation between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.
Both Jadeja and Samson are among the highest-paid players in the IPL, earning ₹18 crore each. On paper, this makes the trade look perfectly balanced. But the reality behind the scenes is much more complicated, and the deal may not materialize if CSK refuses to accept RR’s offer.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the Rajasthan Royals are open to the idea of parting ways with their long-time superstar Sanju Samson but are unwilling to do so in a straight one-for-one deal with the Chennai Super Kings. The RR team management wants another player from CSK as part of the swap, and that demand has now become the biggest hurdle in finalizing the deal.

The player the Royals are eyeing is none other than Dewald Brevis, the young South African batting sensation who joined CSK midway through last season. Brevis’ rise in the franchise cricket world has been extraordinary. In recent months, he has emerged as one of the most talked-about young hitters in the franchise leagues.
Brevis’ explosive hitting and fearless attitude have made him a top target for several teams. He even attracted a record bid from Pretoria Capitals at the SA20 auction earlier this year, where Jo’burg Super Kings (a CSK franchise) withdrew in the final stages of bidding.
No Dewald Brevis in Ravindra Jadeja-Sanju Samson trade deal: CSK’s clear message to RR
Well, CSK aren’t ready to let go of Brevis just yet, especially after investing in his development and watching him evolve into a future superstar. According to reports, CSK’s stand is firm and they are only willing to trade Ravindra Jadeja for Samson without any other players involved.
CSK management believes that letting go of a proven match-winner like Ravindra Jadeja is already a huge decision and adding another key player like Brevis would make the deal too one-sided. It is also said that before entering into trade talks, CSK held internal discussions with Jadeja to keep him apprised of the negotiations.
The franchise continues to maintain strong communication and mutual respect with the Indian all-rounder, who has been one of their biggest match-winners over the years.

Manoj Badle leads trade talks with CSK; Srh says no to Sanjuu Samson Deal
On the other hand, RR owner Manoj Badale is directly handling the negotiations. He is currently in Mumbai and has been actively involved in talks with the CSK camp. At the same time, the Royals have reportedly kept backup options open.
They have reached out to other franchises, including Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), to explore alternatives if the CSK deal falls through. However, SRH is not interested in a deal involving Samson.
The team already has a powerful top order with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma alongside Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen, who have cemented their place in the middle order. With such a settled line-up, SRH are not looking for another top-class wicketkeeper-batsman at the moment.
