Cristiano Ronaldo has officially put an end to speculation about his future and confirms that he will continue to play for Saudi club Al Nassr. The Portugal legend, whose contract would end on 30 June, was connected to various clubs around the world. After helping Portugal to win the UEFA Nations League, he clarified that he has no plans to leave. “Future? Nothing will change. Al Nassr? Yes,” said Ronaldo after the last game. Portugal defeated Spain 5-3 on penalties in the Nations League final, held in the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. Ronaldo scored the equalizer in the game before being replaced in the 88th minute. The victory marked Portugal’s Second Nations League title.

After the game, Ronaldo revealed that various clubs played in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup had approached him. Despite receiving offers, including a reportedly from a Brazilian club, the 40-year-old said he is planning to stay with Al Nassr.

Earlier in May 2025, the sports director Fernando Hierro van Al Nassr confirmed that the club negotiated with Ronaldo to extend his contract. He also admitted that other clubs tried to sign the five-time balloon d’Or winner.

Ronaldo had previously hinted a possible exit by placing a cryptic message on social media after the last competition game of Al Nassr: “This chapter is over. The story? Still written.” But now his last statement has made all the rumors to rest.

Ronaldo came to Al Nassr in December 2022 after his exit from Manchester United. Since then he has had a strong impact on Saudi football and scored 99 goals in 105 performances for the club. He was the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League for the second season in a row, with 25 goals this season.

Despite his personal success, Nassr finished third in the competition and did not qualify for the next AFC Champions League. The only trophy that Ronaldo has won with the club so far is the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023.

In the Nations League final, Ronaldo also expanded his record as the all-time top international goal scorer with his 138th goal, for Lionel Messi and Sunil Chhetri.

“Winning for Portugal is always special. I have many titles with clubs, but nothing is better than winning for Portugal. It’s tears. It is a duty and a lot of joy,” said Ronaldo.
