CP Radhakrishnan is New Veep, Sudershan Reddy’s Tally shows cracks in opposition

NDA candidate and Maharashtra -Governor CP Radhakrishnan was chosen on Tuesday until 14th Vice President of India, who defeated his rival India Bloc candidate B Sudershan Reddy comfortably. Radhakrishnan interviewed 452 of the total 767 votes, while Reddy 300 managed, a figure that showed cracks in the opposition list as a result of cross voices by some opposition members.

The voting figures clearly show that there was a significant intersection of MPs of opposition, although the figures were before the elections in Radhakrishnan.

Of the 788 eligible members of parliament, 767 exercised their franchise with the Vice Presidential elections, which marked a rise of 98.2 percent. No fewer than 752 votes were valid and 15 were invalid, recurring officer PC Mody announced in a press conference.

Thirteen MPs refrain from voices, including seven of the Janata Dal (BJD), four of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), one of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and one independent MP.

The elections came 50 days after Jagdeep Dhankhar was taken out of the post on July 21 in a surprising movement during the first day of the monsoon session, those reasons for health reasons.

Radhakrishnan, 68, a double Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore and current Governor of Maharashtra. He belongs to the Gounder-Kongu Vellalar OBC community. On the other hand, Reddy, 79, a retired judge of the Supreme Court from Telangana, known for statements against Salwa Judum and in the field of black money.

Voting started on Tuesday at 10 am, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the first mood. Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, together with Congrespesident Mallikarjun Kharge, BJP President JP Nadda, and Minister of Union Nitin Gadkari, also voted. Polling was closed at 5 pm and counting the ballot papers started at 6 pm.

The electoral college for the vice -presidential elections consists of 781 MPs (238 from Rajya Sabha and 542 from Lok Sabha; one Lok Sabha and six Rajya Sabha seats are currently empty). With BRS and BJD who abstain, the effective strength 770, with the majority at 386.

The NDA has 425 MPs and also received the support of the YSR Congress Party (11 MPS), which brings its count to 436. The India block is now supported by 324 MPs.

Both Radhakrishnan and Reddy expressed confidence in winning. Reddy said he “tried to wake the conscience of people”, while Radhakrishnan called the match a victory for “Indian Nationalism” and the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat“(developed India).
