A huge Sydney mansion known for infuriating neighbors has just sold for a record price.
Sydney’s North Shore has just hit a new price record near $50 million with the sale of 3 Kirkoswald Ave after less than a week on the market.
The contemporary Susan Rothwell-designed mansion had been gathering potential buyers long before it appeared online last week, according to selling agent Michael Coombs who listed the modern Mosman mansion with colleague Adrian Bridges of Atlas Lower North Shore.
The previous price record for the North Shore was $43 million, set in August at McLean Crescent, Mosman.

The view isn’t bad either.
Although Coombs and Bridges declined to comment on the sale, the final price or the wealthy buyers, Coombs did confirm that more than a dozen parties were toured the home in three days. He added that half of those potential buyers have made solid offers.
The Mosman House campaign was launched last week with a target price of $45 to $50 million. Sources close to the sale suggest the property sold is at the very top of the guide. It was last traded in 2001, before the complete rebuild, for $6.525 million.
When interviewed ahead of the winning bid, Coombs said the six-bedroom house had long been coveted by neighbors.
“This is one of those iconic homes that people have been asking me to buy throughout my career. I’ve always told them no, now it’s a yes,” he said.

“During my 20-plus years in the real estate industry, I am constantly approached about this property. Everyone knows the house, and there is a reason for that; it is just such an amazing home designed by Susan Rothwell,” said Coombs.
Built in the early 2000s, the property on Kirkoswald Ave has been home to the Balnaves family for more than two decades and was listed for the first time.
The late Neil Balnaves AO was patriarch of the philanthropic family that founded the Balnaves Foundation. He was a television executive responsible for running Southern Star and producing shows such as Big Brother, Bananas in Pyjamas, Water Rats and McLeod’s Daughters. He was also one-time chairman of Ardent Leisure Group, the entity previously behind Dreamworld.

Will Dangar-designed gardens surround Balnaves’ home, which sits on a 2,235 sqm plot with stunning views of the harbor to The Heads and across Balmoral.
The residence spans three levels with a central water feature in the atrium, a formal dining room with 6.4m ceilings and a large Italian marble table, plus a large kitchen with Miele appliances and a butler’s pantry, travertine bathrooms with Zucchetti taps, three Jetmaster fireplaces, bedroom ensuites with underfloor heating, a study, automatic blinds, security cameras with back-to-base alarm and new carpet.
Resort-style features include a 20-metre saltwater pool, gym, steam room, wine cellar and au pair accommodation with external access.
