New York Mets First Honkman Pete Alonso challenged teamowner Steve Cohen and President of Baseball Operations David Stearns to “get through” with a contract extension with a big money after he became the new franchise Home Run King on Tuesday.
After Alonso career Homers 253 and 254 had beaten a 13-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves, Outfielder Brandon Nimmo discussed how a desire to build on an inheritance with the franchise could lead to the re-signing of Alonso with the Mets.
“I know it was a motivating factor for me,” said Nimmo about the agreement with an eight -year contract that is reportedly worth $ 162 million to stay with the Mets in December 2022, according to the New York Daily News’ Peter Sblendorio. “So if it was a motivating factor for me that come back, then it will be a motivating factor for him. There is only one organization that you are drawn up by. There is only one organization with which you set these markings.
The Alonso’s services market was quiet in the last season before he accepted a two -year deal to return to the Mets. That will probably not be the case this fall, assuming that he chooses his existing contract shortly after the late season ends.
Per ESPN statistics, Alonso started in third place in MLB on Wednesday with 96 RBI during the season. During his first 119 games of the campaign he cut .267/.352/.528 with a team -high .880 Ops and 28 home runs.
Alonso, Nimmo and Shortstop Francisco Lindor are mentioned as potential captains for the Mets. That said, the New York Yankees could be the potential vroords for Alonso later this year if it becomes available.
“I am just very proud of him,” Nimmo added that Alonso has set the record of the Mets of all time. “And to reach this figure in such a young stage, I can’t wait to see what he puts this Mark on forever.”
Whether Alonso will or may not continue to add to his franchise marker beyond the 2025 campaign can still be seen.
