Costantino Rocca, biography
Rocca, a 69-year-old from Bergamo, was the first Italian to compete in the Ryder Cup, winning two with Team Europe and beating Tiger Woods in singles. For years he was the number one player in Italy and enjoyed a long career on the European circuit, where he recorded five victories. He then played on the Legends Tour and achieved two victories.
The Rules are a set of standards and procedures by which the sport of golf must be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf worldwide, except in the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Association. An expert committee composed of members of the R&A and the USGA oversees the rules and refines them every four years. The latest revision came into effect on January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf are generally divided into two main categories: changes that improve understanding and changes that reduce penalties in certain cases to provide balance. The rulebook, entitled “Rules”, is published regularly and also contains rules for amateur status. In Italy, the Italian Federation is responsible for overseeing competitions by enforcing the rules of the R&A, ensuring that these rules are adhered to by clubs, associations and their members, and for administering the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
The rules are relatively complicated compared to other sports because they are practiced outdoors, close to nature and animals. Respecting the rules is a fundamental part of the game of golf, which, almost always based on self-control and the free conscience of the players, often leads to distorted results, sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously or through carelessness, due to many players not adhering to the rules of the game. In addition to the rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, also called etiquette, which generally means that you play the game with respect for the course and other players. Etiquette is an essential part of this sport.
