Cool box that can handle the road and the waves – we have it for a camper and a houseboat

We purchased a new cool box: Smart Living Cool 50. We chose this, among other things, because it has wheels and handles, so that we can easily move it between the camper and the houseboat. We need a cooler that can handle both the road and the waves!

That is why we want a (new) cool box in the mobile home

For a long time we took a cool box with us in the camper to store drinks that you would like to have cold. The camper’s refrigerator is often full of food and it is difficult to find space for beer, wine, mineral water, iced tea (a favorite in Southern Europe this summer!), soft drinks and other drinks.

Our solution was a cool box that we store in the garage of the mobile home that is cold when we are connected to electricity. When we camp freely, the cool box loses its coolness after a while, but since we only keep drinks there, nothing worse happens than the beer becoming a bit lukewarm…

The problem with the cooler we had was partly that it couldn’t hold the cold when the summer heat came, and partly that it stayed cold for a very short time without electricity connected.

In addition, we wanted a cool box that we can easily move between the camper and the houseboat, so that we also have an extra space to cool drinks when we are at home in the boat.

New kylbox: Smart Living Cool 50

We have now purchased a new cool box. At the Elmia Husvagn Husbil 2025 fair we looked around among different coolers, and in the end we settled on Smart Living Cool 50. What got us hooked on this was:

• Wheels and handlesThis way we can easily move the cool box between the camper and the houseboat.
• Roomybut rather high than wide, so it doesn’t take up too much floor space.
• Store only in the refrigerator and do not freeze – freezer takes up a lot of space and we only want to use the box to cool drinks.
• Additional bacteria can be purchased for longer life when not connected to electricity.

We bought the cooler from Camping4u and perhaps it should be clarified that we paid for the product.

We think one of the advantages of this cool box is that it is very spacious. In the photo below there are a total of 12 wine and coke bottles in the room, and it’s not even full, certainly not at the height.

Capacity, batteries and noise level

When you unplug the cooler from the wall socket, it should be able to maintain an internal temperature of around +5 degrees for about 24 hours, according to the manufacturer. How long and how well the cold is retained is likely to be influenced by things like the ambient temperature and what the box is filled with.

When we tested at home in the houseboat, by pulling out the cord, it turned out that the cooling lasted a little less than a day, but it was still a big difference from our old cooler.

Regarding the noise level, we can say that the cooler occasionally makes a little noise as it warms up the cold, and then occasionally goes into a silent mode.

We have also chosen to purchase an extra battery if we would like to camp freely for a little longer and still enjoy cold drinks.

Summary with conclusions

We have yet to test the cooler on a roll in the RV or how it performs on a hot summer day, so that remains to be seen. What we can now conclude is that it holds a lot, retains the cold better than the cooler we had before and that it is easy to roll, with the help of wheels and handles. We think we will be very satisfied with this cooler.
