Addressing a press conference, senior party leader Pawan Khera said the case was part of a conspiracy to break Rahul Gandhi’s morale, adding that the conspiracy was not only against the MP but the people of India.
“The gangs of Gandhinagar’s abuse of agencies are exposed today. This conspiracy is against the people of India. Rahul Gandhi is playing the role of the opposition perfectly and that is why this conspiracy is going on,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the Rouse Avenue Court said the charge was based on a complaint by a private citizen and not an FIR for a predicate offence, making it legally inadmissible. Noting that the Economic Offenses Wing of Delhi Police has already registered an FIR in the case, the judge said it would be premature to examine the ED’s arguments on merits at this stage.
Khera further welcomed the court order, calling it a “moral and political victory.”
Congress advocate Mohammed Khan also said at the press conference that the National Herald case was ‘fake from day one’.
He pointed out that Rahul Gandhi himself appeared before the police and was interrogated for hours, but despite deploying extensive resources, the central investigating agency failed to build a case against him.
“The case was a complete waste of time,” he added.
