Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. are set to perform it again later this year and one former boxing champion has wondered whether we’ll see a revenge or repeat scenario. In an interview with Poker strategyGeorge Groves discussed the November 15 follow-up clash between Benn and Eubank Jr. after their extremely exciting match earlier this year in April.
Eubank Jr. would earn a unanimous decision victory in their first meeting with Benn, but one former WBA titleholder doesn’t think the outcome of their first fight will line up with how this rematch plays out. Breaking down this huge bout for British boxing’s domestic circuit, George Groves said:
“I think Conor Benn beats him. Might stop him. He caught him early in that first fight, but he couldn’t capitalize on it. He’s got to make some big adjustments, Benn. He can’t fight the same as [he] did it the first time. He is now 28 years old. He’s an adult. He is probably at his physical peak. If he gets his boxing style tactics right, he will beat Eubank and beat him very comfortably.
Conor Benn received high praise from another prolific former champion
Conor Benn is someone who can win a welterweight title if he drops down to that weight category, according to a former kingpin of that weight class. Paulie Malignaggi discussed this during an interview with DAZN and when touching on Benn’s future potential after the latter made his second foray up to middleweight with this Eubank Jr. rematch, Malignaggi said:
“The welterweight division is so weak right now that I think I’d pick Conor Benn to beat, say, Mario Barrios. In fact, I think I could beat Mario Barrios if I could make it to the welterweight division! to get.”
“So I don’t think it will stay weak for long. But at this point, do I think Conor Benn can win a world championship? I do. I don’t necessarily consider him a world championship level fighter, but because the welterweight division is so weak, I think Benn could win a title.”
