Maynard James Keenan knows how to throw a party.

When the frontman of the tools turned 50, he carried out a series of shows in Los Angeles with his two other tires, a perfect circle and puscifer, together with his friends Primus. He called it ‘Cinquanta’, which is 50 in Italian.

Keenan was so happy with the results, last year he took the show – now called “Sessanta” – on the road to celebrate his 60th birthday. The outing was such a success, Keenan did it again this year. While “Sessantuno” is just ready to go there, Keenan went with “Sessanta V2.0” instead.

Regardless of the title, the Tour landed on Sunday evening in St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center for a memorable show that is very different from everything that can be seen in Arenas. Instead of three different versions, Keenan turned the evening into a three-hour concertmashup that only stopped for a 10-minute break.

The bands played three separate sets of three to four songs each, each after the other. To be clear, each has its own sound. Primus specializes in bass-heavy, off-cooker rock with a Goofy sense of humor. The most commercial of the trio, a perfect circle, offers a guitar-controlled view of alt-rock, while Puscifer has a more dramatic and electronic approach with the help of a second vocalist, British signer/songwriter Carina Round.

Nevertheless, Sunday’s show brought forward the similarities of the acts and clear companionship. A gigantic riser on the back of the stage kept three full drum kits and benches, drink carts and stairs to the main stage on both sides. During the show, several band members who did not play in the full view of the crowd hung. During Puscifer’s “Bullet Train to Iowa”, Roadies even brought out a ping -pong table for two members of APC to use.

There were also numerous collaborations, such as when Keenan and Round Back -up singing added to Primus’ New Single “Little Lord Fentanyl”, their first recording with their great new drummer John Hoffman. (Primus reportedly auditioned with more than 6,000 drummers before he found Hoffman.)

Now that the 200 -level is closed, the show could easily have been relegated to the 8,400 capacity armory in Minneapolis. On the other hand, it felt like the type of spectacle made to measure for arenas and amphitheaters. And the grand finale of Primus’ ‘Southbound Pachyderm’ with all three drummers and Puscifer’s’ Grand Canyon ‘with all three bands had fans who cheered so hard that it sounded like a full house.
