McCown finds the stands
After going the first five games of the season without a long ball, the Comets’ power ultimately came through right fielder Trent McCown. McCown hit the team’s first two home runs of the year in his first two at-bats of the day, in the first and fourth inning. He finished the afternoon 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk and three runs scored.
The offense also saw significant contributions from
Alex Miller (DH): 1-for-3 with three RBIs, a walk and one run scored.
Albert Garza (2B): 1-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base.
Great day on the hill
Seth Taylor (1-0) earned his first win of the season with an impressive start. Taylor worked five innings, allowing just one run on three hits. While he managed three walks, a wild pitch and a hit batter, he recorded four strikeouts over 84 pitches to maintain his 4.00 ERA.
The Comets’ bullpen largely silenced the Buffaloes’ bats
Tag Pacot: Continued his effective early season run with three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out four on 60 pitches.
Sam Webster: Had a tough stretch in 0.2 innings, allowing two runs on one hit, two walks, a wild pitch and two hit batters.
Gavin Hickman: Came in for the final out and needed just two pitches to secure the win for the Comets.
West Texas A&M’s Nick Yeager (0-1) was blamed for the loss.
Road test ahead
The Comets (5-1) now prepare for their toughest challenge yet: a four-game road series against undefeated St. Mary’s (6-0). The set begins Friday, with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday and the series concludes Sunday.
