Combining two passions: real estate and steel drum music – Living Room Realty

Last month, Living Room Realty hosted its annual State of the Union meeting – a time for our brokerage to reflect on the past year and recognize agents and teams for their business and community achievements.

In addition to receiving a few awards, including being part of one of the real estate agencies Top 5 teamsthe sale of most houses on the Westside of Portlandand achieving the highest individual sales of the year — I had the unique pleasure of combining two important parts of my life: music and real estate.

I was invited to provide the entertainment for the event, so I brought my band and my steel pan to set the tone. We played as the guests arrived and kicked off the program with an energetic performance on steel drums.

It was great fun to share my music with colleagues and fellow real estate agents, and it was just as special to give my band members a look behind the scenes into the culture of a top independent real estate agency.

I was fortunate enough to move to Portland in the 1990s after growing up in Maryland and then going to college in Texas. My professional life began with owning and operating a music school and recording studio in SE Portland. Ultimately, I was drawn to real estate as an investor and then as an advisor to home buyers and sellers and fellow real estate investors. My family and I have lived on both sides of the river and we spend much of our free time on the coast in Manzanita. My real estate business and family keep me very busy, but whenever possible I hit the court to participate in tennis leagues and tournaments, and I have recently started playing Pickleball. I also occasionally mix in a performance or performance for a young audience with local jazz group Trashcan Joe.
