Raphael Collignon has closed a dream weekend in the Davis Cup qualifications for both itself and Belgium with a decisive comeback victory against Aleksandar Vukic on Sunday in Sydney.
After they fought cramps on Saturday during a three-set upset of world no. 8 Alex de Minaur, Collignon Vukic 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3 survived to achieve a stunning 3-2 victory in Ken Rosewall Arena. The No. 91 in the PIF ATP ranking list broke Vukic’s Serve twice in each of the second and third sets to complete a memorable triumph for the European nation.

Despite the fact that Sunday’s action was on its way with 0-2, Australia threatened to get a memorable comeback after drawing level at 2-2. Rinky Hijikata and Jordan Thompson dominated 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-4 in the double rubber against Sander Gille and Joran flying before the Minaur Zizou Berg defeated 6-2, 7-5. “Yesterday was physically demanding,” Collignon said after his victory over Vukic, As reported by the Davis Cup website. “I tried to recover as well as possible for today. It was a long day to wait, but I tried to restore the way I could be ready for this game and I am very happy how I played.
“I felt physically good. With adrenaline and the energy of the couch it was crazy, I didn’t feel the legs at all. It was a crazy atmosphere and a crazy game.”
A Davis Cup finalist in 2015 and 2017, Belgium is in the Davis Cup in the Davis Cup for the first time since 2018. The 2025 Davis Cup Final 8 will be held in Bologna from November 18-23. In addition to Belgium, the other qualified countries are host Italy, Argentina, Austria, the Czech Republic, France and Germany.
