Week 8 of college football lived up to its incredibly hyped slate. Nine ranked teams fell, including four in the top 10.
Here’s what the PFF Top 25 looks like heading into Week 9. Keep in mind that these are not the same as the PFF power rankings.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes (Record: 7-0, Previous: 1st)
Week 9 Matchup: Bye
State of Ohio remains head and shoulders above the rest of the country with a 34-0 shutout victory Wisconsin. Julian Sayin earned an elite 91.6 PFF grade with an adjusted completion percentage of 90% in the win. The redshirt freshman now leads all quarterbacks in the country with a PFF grade of 92.0 this season.
2. Indiana Hoosiers (Record: 7-0, Previous: 3rd)
Matchup week 9: vs. UCLA Bruins
Indiana took care of business with a 38-13 victory State of Michigan. Fernando Mendoza showed why he is the current betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy with a PFF grade of 90.1, his highest against an FBS opponent of his career. The Hoosiers get to work UCLA this week, a school that has won its last three games after starting 0-4.
3. Texas A&M Aggies (Record: 7-0, Previous: 4th)
Matchup week 9: at number 20 LSU Tigers
Texas A&M barely escaped Arkansasupset bid with a 45-42 victory. Quarterback Marcel Reed earned a season-high PFF grade of 82.3 in the win with two big throws and no turnover-worthy plays. The Aggies will put their undefeated record to the test in Week 9 as they move to a No. 20 ranking LSU.
4. Alabama Crimson Tide (Record: 6-1, Previous: 5th)
Week 9 Matchup: at South Carolina Gamecocks
Alabama moves up one spot after the 37-20 win over number 11 Tennessee. It is the Crimson Tide’s fourth consecutive win over a top 20 opponent. Alabama’s offensive line thrived despite the Volunteers’ strong pass rush with a PFF pass-blocking grade of 89.6 with just five pressures allowed.
5. Georgian bulldogs (Record: 6-1, Previous: 8th)
Week 9 Matchup: Bye
Georgia moves into the top five after its 43-35 win over fifth-ranked Ole Miss. Gunner Stockton posted a career-high 90.9 PFF grade in the win with an 89.7% adjusted completion percentage, three big throws and no turnover-worthy plays.
6. Oregon ducks (Record: 6-1, Previous: 9th)
Matchup week 9: vs. Wisconsin Badgers
Oregon was looking for blood after losing it Indiana last week with a 56-10 victory Rutgers. Dante Moore generated a career-high 93.2 PFF grade in the win with five big throws and no turnover-worthy plays.
7. BYU Cougars (Record: 7-0, Previous: 11th)
Week 9 Matchup: at Cyclones in the state of Iowa
BYU moves into the top 10 after the 24-21 win over number 23 Utah in the Holy War. The Cougars’ defense stepped up when it mattered most, holding the Utes to just 20% on fourth down attempts.
8. Georgia Tech yellow jackets (Record: 7-0, Previous: 12th)
Matchup week 9: vs. Syracuse Orange
Georgia Tech is also in the top 10 with their first 7-0 start to a season since 1966. The Yellow Jackets did that with a 27-18 victory over Duke. Haynes King posted a season-high 86.7 pff grade for the win, while also running for 116 yards and a touchdown.
9. Miami (FL) Hurricanes (Record: 5-1, Previous: 2nd)
Matchup week 9: vs. Stanford Cardinal
Miami drops seven spots to No. 9 after the 24-21 win Louisville. Carson Beck threw a career-high four interceptions in the loss with four turnover-worthy plays and a season-low PFF grade of 46.2.
10. Ole Miss Rebels (Record: 6-1, Previous: 5th)
Matchup week 9: at number 13 Oklahoma Sooners
Ole Miss drops a few slots after losing 43-35 to ninth place Georgia. The Rebels had a season-low defensive rating of 61.1 in the loss as the Bulldogs scored on every possession.
