Colby Covington, a staunch supporter of US President Donald Trump, wants to fight on June 14, when the UFC heads to the South Lawn of the White House.
Covington, who has lost three of his last four fights, had recently teased a move to middleweight and expressed interest in fighting former champions Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya.
Now, however, Covington’s recent comments suggest he wants to stay at welterweight for his next fight. In a recent interview with Valuetainment, “Chaos” said he is in negotiations with the UFC to fight on the White House card.
“I have negotiated with the UFC for the White House Card. That is the one I want. I told them this is important to my legacy and important to my career. This would be the biggest fight I have ever had. To fight for the President on the South Lawn would be the greatest honor of my career. We are in negotiations right now.”
Colby Covington on who he wants to fight on June 14
During the same sitdown, Colby Covington added that he wants to fight Paddy Pimblett on June 14. Covington also tried to push “The Baddy” down to 170 pounds, as drastic weight cuts could have long-term consequences for Pimblett.
“I would love to fight Paddy Pimblett. He had expressed interest in maybe moving up a weight class to welterweight. He is losing a lot of weight to get to 155.” [pounds]… I love that fight, and it’s a fight where it’s an American versus a British guy. I don’t want to fight an American on America’s 250th anniversary.”
Check out Colby Covington’s comments below:
Pimblett last fought Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 for the interim lightweight title and lost by unanimous decision. The Liverpoolan suffered heavy damage, suffered a broken face and fell several times.
However, he did not suffer any serious injuries, is now “back in the laboratory” and is already aiming for a return in the summer.
