AI sucks, and there’s no way this bubble won’t burst soon, but top executives are still all-in on AI, which means the companies will continue to shove it down our throats whether we like it or not. Is AI terrible for the environment? Certainly. Will it increase your electricity bill?? Most likely. Does it make mistakes all the time because it doesn’t actually know anything? Naturally. But it’s not like CEOs are concerned about that. I mean, just look at Coke’s latest AI-generated ad: the van doesn’t even have a consistent axle configuration.
We’re not just talking about one short shot where the truck shown has a different axle configuration. It changes constantly throughout the 60-second runtime of the ad, and I’m pretty sure some of them are physically impossible. In fact, the configuration changes 10 different times. It’s also noticeable that someone made a graph with all the different axle configurations in one handy image. Did no one notice that before it was finally approved? Someone must have noticed, right? And yet they still put it there for the public to see.
This should be so embarrassing
But hey, at least Coke saved some money by not having to pay people to make a good commercial featuring trucks with consistent, realistic axle configurations. And that’s really what it’s all about, isn’t it? To get rid of as many human workers as possible? After all, every dollar that goes into someone’s paycheck is a dollar that the owners don’t get to keep. Of course, if everyone at work is replaced by a robot, no one will have money to buy those companies’ products and services, but that’s not a problem now. That’s a problem a future CEO will have to deal with, and right now, getting richer is more important than other people’s lives.
Is that probably more of a shame than you were hoping to read when you clicked on this post? Probably. But it’s also Coke’s fault for making a bad ad, not my fault for writing about it. Okay, maybe it’s kind of my fault. Sorry about that (but only a little).
