Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene with the Yemeni authorities and to save the Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, convicted of being executed in Yemen.

In a letter to Mr. Modi on Sunday, Mr. Vijayan appealed to him to record the case and intervene with the authorities involved to save the life of Nimisha Priya, “given that this is a matter that deserves sympathy”. In the letter he also raised a letter that he had written to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Union on 24 March 2025.

In the letter of March, Mr Vijayan had written that the old mother of Nimisha Priya had lodged an avid profession to save her daughter’s life. In an earlier letter of 6 February 2025 he had asked to have asked for the intervention of Union Government for saving the life of the young woman, who was found guilty of a crime who committed her as a teenager.

Nimisha Priya, from Kollengode in the Palakkad district in Kerala, was convicted in 2020 for the murder of her Yemeni business partner in July 2017. She was reportedly subjected to serious abuse and in an attempt to defend herself, the man had died. Nimisha Priya is now confronted with the death penalty. According to Yemeni law, Clementia is only possible through blood money. Her implementation is reportedly resolved before July 16.
