CM approves underpass project on Peshawar Ring Road

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a major infrastructure project to build five major underpasses along the busy Peshawar Ring Road at a cost of around Rs 9.94 billion.

The initiative was taken as an extension of the provincial government’s urban development plan to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility in Peshawar, where traffic volume has increased over the years due to high urban growth and increase in the number of vehicles. It is hoped that the construction of these underpasses will facilitate traffic flow by separating signal-free and local crossing traffic.

Underpasses that need to be built:

  • Diversion road – ring road intersection (PDA toll plaza)
  • Pishtakhara Chowk – Bara Road bypass junction
  • 3 Hazarkhwani Chowk – junction around Hazarkhwani Ring Road
  • Jameel Chowk – Phandu Road Ring Road Junction
  • Dalazak Chowk – Dalazak Road bypass junction

The project is also considered a step towards long-term urban reform as it helps modernize the city’s transportation infrastructure and anchor further commercial and residential development along the Ring Road corridor.
