Citigroup Inc. Has moved nearly 1,000 technical jobs to India’s business support centers after cuts on his workforce in China, according to people who are familiar with the issue.
The Wall Street -Bedietier shifted the jobs in phases in recent months after the staff in China had reduced as part of a broader global revision, said that the people who asked not to be identified because the information is not public. Citigroup refused to comment.
Worldwide banks can now send even more work to their Indian support centers after the shock movement of US President Donald Trump this month to impose $ 100,000 costs on new applications to the widely used H-1B visa program.
These Indian technical hubs, known as Global Capability Centers, or GCCs, have grown considerably in recent years and have become a market of $ 64 billion according to data from an EY report. Citigroup has around 33,000 employees in India, usually in these support centers spread over cities such as Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Mumbai.
Citigroup announced in June that it intends to reduce its technological workforce in China by around 3,500 as part of its global simplification attempts.
