Cincinnati Tennis Final Preview, Pick and Prediction: Sinner vs. Alcaraz

2 minutes, 8 seconds Read

On the one hand you can get tired of seeing how Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz play each other time and time again.

On the other hand, well … you couldn’t.

First, it seems to be their rivalry never Can’t deliver. Their head-to-head showdowns become more often in direct classics. And when you are considering the alternatives, you cannot say any way to another Sinner-Alcaraz showdown. After all, nobody wants to look at a final in which one of “The New 2” someone like Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz or another hopeless challenger destroys the borderline.

Fortunately, the Western & Southern Open -Final on Monday is the final we need. It is Sinner vs. Alcaraz for the 14th time in their career and for the fourth time this season. The head-to-head series is in favor of Alcaraz on 8-5, but Sinner triumphed the most recently with 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the Wimbledon title competition. That ended a five-match series winning series for the Spaniard, which was emphasized by a 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (10-2) victory of Triple Championship in the French Open Final. They have split their last four open -air competitions on two victories each, with Alcaraz most recently prevailing in a third set of Tiebreaker on the 2024 Beijing Tournament.

Sinner and Alcaraz

Sinner must go as a considerable favorite in Chapter 14 of the rivalry, and not just because of his success of Wimbledon. The World No. 1 has been on tour the best and most consistent player this year and he would give an even greater lead on top of the ranking, if not for a three -month suspension. He has been by far the superior player in Cincinnati, after he has deposited Daniel Elahi Galan, Gabriel Diallo, Adrian Mannarino, Felix Auger-Aliasxime and Terence Atmane in straight sets.

The journey from Alcaraz to the final included a few three-Setters-in his opening match against Damir Dzumhur and in the quarters against Andrey Rublev. The world No. 2 made faster work by Hamad Medjedovic, Luca Nardi and Alexander Zverev, although Semi against Zverev was a virtual walkover on Saturday because the German was less than 100 percent.

Both the current form and the surface – a very fast hard court – are sinner of Sinner. It would be no surprise if he provides business in straight sets, but that does not mean that it will be a walk in the park. A tiebreaker and maybe even two should be in store, but Sinner will probably be too solid in the moments with pressure full.

Choose: Sinner in 2
