With a career of the glory days of Greg Norman to the rise of Tiger Woods, renowned and highly respected golf writer Brendan Moloney has released his long -awaited memoirs, 75 Plus Thais.
Media Release
The book records four decades in the ropes and in the media center, with the sharp eye and the dry humor that made him one of the most familiar voices of the Australian Gulf. A member of life and former president of the Australian Golf Writers Association, Moloney treated 15 major championships and countless international tournaments during his years at Melbourne’s The Age -Krant.
Under his own steam at the helm of Interstate Moloney Group (IMG) he was in demand as both columnist and media centers in PGA tournaments.
In 75 Plus Thais, he lovingly reflects on the characters, controversies and changes in the game and tells stories from the Titans of the Fairways to the ungrown heroes that the sport have formed locally.
Readers will find memorable encounters with legends such as Peter Thomson, Arnold Palmer and Greg Norman, in addition to suggestive portraits of those whose contributions to Golf Rarely get the headlines.
The title of the book is inspired by a humorous incident in the Thailand Open, when a local player “tires” confused with “Thais” when discussing the tournament. It is a suitable emblem for the style of Moloney that is always tailored to the human side of the game, even in the heat of competition.
In addition to golf, the adventures of Moloney Mossellanding, large-scale pumpkin growth, air diving, flying gliders and the only journalist who completed the 400 km Red Cross Canotarathon on the Murray River.
In 2018, Moloney was admitted to the Victorian Golf Hall of Fame and joined only two other writers for him, Jack Dillon and Don Lawrence. His memoirs remain that tradition of excellence in sports writing.
An early review (attached) mentions 75 Plus Thais “a great book that reminds us of events and people from an era not so long ago who played their role to make our local game what it is today” and praises the sections about Peter Thomson as “it is only worth the Thomson -Spul – but there is much more.”
