The English Bowler Chris Woakes did not give up in the axis this winter after he has unveiled rehabilitation instead of surgery on his disrupted shoulder.

Woakes produced an amazing representation of courage in the six-run loss of England against India in the fifth test of an exciting series earlier this week when he decided to hit number 11 with his arm in a pendulum after a dislocation of his left shoulder on day one of the game.

The 36-year-old has had a scan on his shoulder and although he is still waiting to receive the results, he is hopeful that a period of eight weeks of rehabilitation can be sufficient to ensure that he makes a wonderful recovery to appear in the axis, which is going on on November 21.

“I am waiting to see what the size of the damage is, but I think the options will be to undergo surgery or to go off a rehabilitation route and try to get it as strong as possible,” Woakes told BBC Sport. “I suppose there will of course be a chance of a repetition, but I suppose this could be a risk that you are just willing to take some kind of things.

“What I have heard of physios and specialists is that the rehabilitation of an operation option would be closer to four months, or three to four months. That is clearly touching the ashes and Australia, so it makes it difficult. From a rehabilitation point you can probably get it strong within eight weeks. So that can be an option, to get the full report again.”

Woakes is the most experienced member of the Bowling unit of England after the retirement of Stuart Broad two summers ago and the decision to continue with record wicket-maker James Anderson in 2024.
