Co-founder of Chemist Warehouse Mario Verrocchi appears to be emerging as the buyer of a $23 million penthouse in the Hall & Campbell boutique hall overlooking Bondi Beach.

Toorak-based Verrocchi had planned to buy the sub-penthouse, but Goodman Australia head and Wallabies legend Jason Little and his wife Bridget have reportedly opted not to buy the 285 square meter fourth-floor penthouse, which has 85 square meters on the third floor and a total of 443 square meters of space.

They were designated as the $23 million that the plan’s buyers would receive in mid-2024.

Meanwhile, Verrocchi, who is estimated to have more than $7 billion, apparently quickly turned the sub-penthouse over to colleague Mario Tascone, who joined Chemist Warehouse as a trainee pharmacist in the late 1980s.

Tascone and his wife Alison, from Balwyn North, will spend their holiday in the $21.5 million two-storey Bondi Beach sub-penthouse in the complex developed by Capitel Group’s Eduard Litver and Rebel Property Group’s Allen Linz.

The site of the 1950s Bates Milk Bar, known for its choc-malt milkshakes until its closure in 2001, was purchased for redevelopment in 2016 for $19.12 million.

Bondi Beach’s best-priced single apartment remains Multiplex heir Andrew Roberts’ $24 million 2022 purchase on Notts Ave.

The latest Notts Ave sale saw derivatives trader Andrew Killion emerge as the $11.8 million buyer of the apartment of Mable CEO Peter Scutt and wife Nadia Jacob, a property decorator. It was sold through Ben Collier of The Agency after paying $8.08 million for the two-bedroom apartment in the 1980s block in 2021.

It appears likely to be a halfway house for Killion, who spent $20 million last year on a duplex in Tamarama that he plans to demolish and build a new home.

At the north end of the beach, the Rubenstein brothers have secured $5.05 million for their investment property in Kim Newton’s Cadigal complex.

It was listed at $4.7 million by TRG’s Jarryd and Gavin Rubinstein.

Their apartment in the Bondi Diggers Club redevelopment cost $3.025 million in 2017.
