Chelsea have expressed interest in signing Bologna striker Santiago Castro QSas relayed by Tuttosport.
After joining from Vélez Sarsfield in January 2024, Castro enjoyed a meteoric rise in Serie A. He finished last season with ten goals and eight assists in all competitions for I Rossoblù and continued to play a key role in Bologna’s progress in the current campaign, contributing eight goals for Vincenzo Italiano’s European chasing side.
That form has attracted attention beyond club level, earning the 21-year-old his first call-up to Argentina’s star-studded La Albiceleste team in March.
Quote QS, Tuttojuve reports that Chelsea have expressed interest in the possible transfer of Castro to Stamford Bridge to strengthen Liam Rosenior’s attack.
However, the Blues face stiff competition in the race to sign the exciting Argentine forward as Juventus, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid battle it out with the London giants for Castro, the report said.
Conflict
With a contract at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara running until 2028, the Italian outlet adds that it will be difficult to sign the 21-year-old due to Chelsea’s interest as Bologna are adamant about selling him this season, although their stance could soften next season.
Chelsea already have plenty of attacking options, and further reinforcements are also planned for next season.
Agreements have been signed for Emanuel Emegha and Dastan Satpaev to join in the summer, while Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Marc Guiu and talented academy players Shumaira Mheuka and Dujuan Richards remain part of the Stamford Bridge squad.
Despite that depth, Castro, valued at £30 million, was passed on Transfer marketcould still be an attractive addition, with a possible loan spell at Strasbourg offering the chance to gain experience before potentially returning to Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Liam Rosenior’s tenure as Chelsea head coach begins on Saturday evening as the Blues travel to The Valley to take on Championship side Charlton Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup.
