We all know that Noni Madueke is a decent player and can be very good on his day. I also think he is a very inconsistent player and while he can score a goal from nothing, he is certainly not a world beater.
But that’s not the reason why we shouldn’t regret selling him, it has more to do with his attitude. It is my personal opinion that he thinks he is much better than he actually is. But I have also heard from good sources from more than one top source that his attitude stinks. He has been criticized by a number of managers for the way he trains and overall he is just not someone we would want to have, whether he is a good player or not – and there is certainly debate about that.
I’m writing this based on Pat Nevin’s comments yesterday. I usually agree with Nevin, but not with this one.
He said:
“I have to say that my eyebrows were raised when they let Noni Madueke go. And to bring in Garnacho… I’m not sure yet. Really not sure. Between Garnacho, Gittens and Madueke, to choose one of those three to play every week at the time I would choose Madueke. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second about that.”
“I think at the end of this season a lot of people will look at how Madueke did and how Garnacho did and compare them. I think there might be a little bit of regret about that.”
I’m not sure about Garnacho and Gittens yet either. However, they were not a replacement for Madueke, who plays on the other flank, but Estevao Willian was. And I don’t think there are any question marks over his head! Pedro Neto is also a solid option to have there.
But to say that he thinks there will be regrets about selling Madueke is beyond me. None of us have to regret that. These are the kind of egos and players that ultimately cause team problems and dissatisfaction. For me it’s the same with Nicolas Jackson. That’s why I was happy to see the backs of both of them. The way Jackson behaved in the summer was also completely out of place. He told Chelsea there was no way he wouldn’t go to Bayern when Chelsea wanted him back. We are better off without players like that. We all remember the few penalty fiascos we had. Fortunately, you won’t see that with the current crop of players we have.
