Chelsea are planning to sign Atletico Madrid centre-back Marc Pubill Transfers.
Pubill started his football journey in Espanyol’s youth academy before moving to Levante’s academy, where he made his LaLiga debut in December 2021 at the age of 18.

After Levante’s relegation, Pubill continued to develop in the Segunda División before joining Almería, where he made 63 appearances, scoring two goals and providing eight assists.
At international level, the 22-year-old most notably won the 2024 Olympics with Spain. He played 73 minutes before being replaced by Sevilla’s Juanlu Sánchez.
Following their relegation, Atletico reportedly trumped Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers to secure Pubill’s signature during last summer’s transfer window, where he has since made 17 appearances in all competitions.
According to TransfersSeveral Premier League clubs have made inquiries to understand his situation and possible availability at the Estadio Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
One of the clubs interested in Pubill is Chelsea, according to the Spanish newspaper, which claims the London club has shown the most pressure to sign him in recent weeks and has intensified talks with the playing camp in the hope of getting the deal over the line.
Despite Atletico dropping a £68million price on the five-cap Spain international, who Liam Rosenior sees as having the ‘ideal profile’ for his defence, the Blues have not ruled out meeting their demands next summer if his performances continue to improve. Transfers adds.
‘Ideal profile’
Chelsea were expected to add a centre-back to their ranks, with former manager Enzo Maresca making the demand public following the aftermath of Levi Colwill’s injury.
Instead, the club continued to rely on the options available, which were occasionally impressive, such as the match against Barcelona, but were inconsistent for most of the campaign.
They were closely linked with Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet during the recently concluded winter transfer window, but were outshone by Premier League rivals Liverpool for his signature.
This led to the recall of Mamadou Sarr and Aaron Anselmino from their loan spells at Strasbourg and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
The club already has a host of other options, including Wesley Fofana, Josh Acheampong and Trevoh Chalobah, meaning Rosenior is not short of right centre-backs unless it is an upgrade from the current options.
Although the stats suggest otherwise, his qualities suggest he could improve with more playing time, but Chelsea could do with a more experienced choice.
