It was an eventful day for Charley Hull on Saturday during the third round of the Aig Women’s open At Royal Porthcawl.
The English star started the day even par but made seven birdies in her first 13 holes to shoot the leaderboard in Wales. But the Tour of Hull was not perfect because her quirky tee shot on the fourth Tee hit almost Minjee Lee, who prepared to refrain from the 17th hole.
“Almost minjee out,” Dame Laura Davies said on the broadcast.
After the round, both Hull and Lee jokes made the almost pelting that took place along the coastline of Rest Bay.
“Killed almost Minjee?” Hull then said a reporter asked her to take them through the offline tee ball. “When I touched it, I cried well, but I said,” I hope it is on the Tee box, “and that was it, so it was good. I love Minjee. I wouldn’t want to remove her.”
“I’m glad it bounced big because the right flew over me,” said Lee, who shot four on Saturday. ‘A lady or man cried on the left, so I had something like that:’ Oh, it will not happen. “But it came exactly over me.
Almost the elimination of Lee was almost the only blemish of Hull on a sublime Saturday that fired her a six-year 66 to close within three shots of 54-hole leader Miyu Yamashita, who stumbled on Saturday with a two-over 74 on Saturday.
Hull, who is still looking for her first big win of the career, enjoyed pinning her ears back on Saturday and tried to close what an 11-shot gorge was between her and Yamashita. The shortage is now three and Hull will be in the middle of the Sunday yacht during the last major championship of the year.
“I just enjoy hunting. It’s pretty nice. I like it. It is more fun that way,” Hull said. “I like to chase someone.”
The Week van Hull started with a question mark about her health after a virus forced her to leave the Amundi Evian championship on a stretcher. She recently adjusted her while she took a box out of her car. The 29-year-old lost weight and swing speed because of the virus and arrived in Wales hoping to make some noise, but not convinced that her game was in the best place to do this.
After having vaulted the Leaderboard on the relocation day at Royal Porthcawl, Charley Hull is in position to make a lot of noise on Sunday and perhaps to leave Wales with the big victory that her CV is missing.
Her mentality when she hunts major no. 1? Simple. Try to put as many circles as possible on the score card. There is nothing to lose.
