“Man, you’re talking about two of my favorite guys to ever grace the Octagon. If you saw them walking down the road, knowing nothing about sports, knowing nothing about mixed martial arts, they probably wouldn’t assume those guys are world champions, former world champions. Two of the most dominant tough guys in the UFC of all time. I’m going to put those guys in the Hall of Fame right away, guaranteed.”
“First ballot, the day they retire, boom, they should be inducted right after that. Two guys, yeah, like I said, very humble who don’t really look like fighters, you know what I mean? When you see them go out, they’re everything you want to see in a champion, what you want to see in a fighter, someone who represents your country, someone who represents the sport very, very well.”
“I’m so excited about that event. That fight is going to be balls to the wall. Two very skilled athletes who haven’t slowed down in their careers. They’ve done nothing but improve, it’s unreal. I remember there was a time when Oliveira went back and forth between ’45 and ’55 when he was the youngest. I think he might have been the youngest UFC fighter at one point, way back when.”
Charles Oliveira wins over Clay Guida to end his all-time career, according to ‘The Carpenter’
When Guida further discussed ‘do Bronx’ Oliveira before also describing his position on ‘Blessed’ Holloway, Guida continued [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“I think he came in when he was 18 or 19, 20 or something like that. There was a lot of hype around him and then people were like, ‘Oh, you know, blah blah blah this and that.’ But then he got back on his horse at 155 and yeah, unfortunately he beat me about five miles from here in Chicago at the house that Michael Jordan built. I fought him at the United Center in front of a home crowd and I can safely say it didn’t go that well. It didn’t go as planned.”
“But that was the first fight of his journey when he was in what I call one of the most remarkable lightweight runs or UFC runs of all time. I think he won maybe eight or 10 straight fights in that run to get that title, defending that title for a long time. So he’s incredible. The guy keeps getting better, he keeps pushing away top athletes. Max Holloway on the other hand, this guy just doesn’t stop surprising me.”
“He continues to impress me with every performance and performance. It’s just unreal. The guy I mean, he beats wrestlers, he beats jiu-jitsu guys, he beats strikers, he beats boxers, and he beats them with authority. He literally takes the will of these guys from them. He makes these guys stop right there. He points at his opponent, he points at the mat, he puts his hands up and he backs it up. You know, He is pure entertainment.”
“That guy doesn’t look like he could hurt a fly, you know what I mean? When you see him, but when he walks in there, that guy is all business. Just an absolute savage. So this fight has all the makings of a fight of the year, a fight of the night, for sure. You’re going to see two legends going for it.” the BMF belt and who deserves it more than these guys. So yeah, as you can tell, I’m a little excited about this match.
