Championship: Incredible collapse leaves Leicester deep in relegation mire – Soccer News

Leicester City incredibly threw away a three-goal lead to lose 4-3 to Southampton on Tuesday and see their winless run extended to six Championship games.

With a six-point deduction also confirmed last week, this miserable period has put Leicester in serious danger of successive relegations.

It had looked like the Foxes, led by interim boss and club legend Andy King, would leave the bottom three behind as they took the lead at the King Power Stadium.

Divine Mukasa and Patson Daka were on target within the first thirteen minutes, and before the half hour it was 3-0 when Abdul Fatawu came into action with a blockbuster.

The second half, however, was a very different affair and Ross Stewart’s goal gave Southampton hope.

It was still no more than that heading into the final 10 minutes, but a truly remarkable finish saw Jack Stephens and Ryan Manning level the Saints level before Shea Charles’ stunning effort in the 96th minute completed the turnaround.

Leicester remain level on 32 points with Blackburn Rovers, who occupy the last relegation place, after playing one game less.

And they are four points clear of Oxford United, who were beaten 3-0 by resurgent Norwich City, who recorded their fifth win in six to move seven points clear.

Mohamed Toure, signed from Randers at the end of January, marked his first Norwich start with a hat-trick.

Elsewhere, West Brom moved one point closer to safety after a goalless draw at neighbors Birmingham City.

Review of the data: Foxes fail to stop the rot

Goals from Mukasa and Daka ensured that no team in the Championship scored more goals than Leicester in the opening 15 minutes of matches, but that wasn’t the only known trend to continue against Saints.

Only Wrexham (20) and Derby County (18) have dropped more points from winning positions than Leicester’s 17, while they have lost three home games in a row in the same Championship season for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
