The Champions League returns this week for MatchDay two, because Liverpool, Barcelona, PSG and Spurs are all confronted with important collisions on the European stage.
Five talk points prior to the Champions League promotion:
Jose Mourinho returns to Chelsea
Chelsea welcomes a well -known figure back to Stamford Bridge while the Benfica team of Jose Mourinho takes on the side of Enzo Maresca on Tuesday evening.
The shadow of the Special One looms this week great about the club in the midst of a series of poor form. The blues are looking for their first victory this month, against the manager who led them to three Premier League titles over two Stints.
The days that Chelsea played as True World -Beckpers, feel a long time ago. They can be world champions, for what it is worth, but after losing successive matches in the Premier League it seems that this will be another year in which they will not challenge the title, despite their enormous expenditures in recent years.
Chelsea came from 4-1 winners of their meeting Benfica in the club World Cup last summer, although the Portuguese giants brought them to extra time. They prefer to win this draw, but could the Mourinho factor give visitors a lead?
The outfit of West -London does not hope so; Maresca cannot really afford to lose it after he fell to a 3-1 defeat in Bayern Munich in the opening week of this year’s competition.
A collision of contenders
On Wednesday we finally get the matchup that we should have seen in last season as Barcelona host PSG in the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Company.
Barça’s defensive weaknesses eventually cost them defeat against Inter Milan in the semi -final, and given how the Italians did in the decision maker, the men of Hansi Flick may have avoided their own drubing in Munich.
However, they can stand opposite Paris at a good time. The reigning champions recently lost to Marseille and have not been their typically dominant self against Ligue 1 -Despite the top of the table.
Barcelona is now in burning hot shape; Untelfell in all competitions, they have scored 23 goals in eight games. This will be a very early test for Flick’s side and a measure of their references for the ultimate glory.
David vs Goliath
All eyes will be focused on that titanic collision, but elsewhere two giants of the European game will travel to face the supposed lashes of the tournament.
Real Madrid makes the tough journey to Kazakhstan to take on Kairat Almaty, while Bayern Munich goes to Cyprus for a meeting with Pafos FC.
Real and Bayern have 21 Champions League titles between them, while Kairat and Pafos are competing at this level for the first time.
These competitions are expected to go only one way, but it is only four years since Real was shocked by Moldavian outfit FC Sheriff Tiraspol in the group stage. Bayern is only two years away from an embarrassing defeat to the third row of Saarbrucken in the German cup, so neither clubs is a stranger for unlikely disruptions.
Welcome to Hell, Liverpool
Liverpool makes the trip to Galatasaray for the third time in the history of Champions League this Tuesday, while they want to bounce back from defeat to Crystal Palace during the weekend.
The fans of the Turkish outfit are known for creating a febrile atmosphere on these European nights since their famous victory over Manchester United in 1993.
The Gala fans welcomed the United players at the airport with banners who read ‘Welcome to Hell’, and they certainly delivered in that area.
A victory here would be another shock on that scale. Liverpool are priceless favorites, despite their non -convincing performance this season. Galatasaray may dominate the Super Lig after signing Leroy Sane and Victor Osimhen, but they were trounded 5-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt during the opening week.
The Champions League can quickly become a Hellcape for the Okan Buruk team when Liverpool finds their scoring touch.
Spurs go back to the polar circle
On the way to Europa League Glory Last season, Tottenham Hotspur had to go through Bodo/Glimt. It was a difficult draw against a Norwegian side that has taken many scores in Europe in recent years.
Spurs won the quarterfinals 5-1 aggregated, so that shines never defeated an English side and all five of their encounters lost.
Thomas Frank should again guide his side to victory, although he probably shouldn’t travel to the polar circle this week. His team will make a return of 600 km before he goes to Leeds this Saturday.
