Bayern Munich conquer Chelsea 3-1 in their opening Champions League match, and Manuel Neuer believes that another European title is a realistic goal.
Six times European champions Bayern won the competition in 2020 for the last time when they defeated Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon.
The Vincent Kompany team did not play in the last term in the Champions League and lost to the final second place Inter in the last 16, but they start this campaign by seeing the winners of the World Cup Chelsea in Allianz Arena.
The own goal of Trevoh Chalobah opened the score before Harry Kane scored twice to seal the game for Bayern, with Cole Palmer on goal for the blues.
In the process, Neuer recorded his 100th victory in the Champions League, in what his 150th performance was in the competition.
He joins Cristiano Ronaldo (115), Thomas Muller (111) and Iker Casillas (101) as a century of Champions League wins, and the experienced goalkeeper has set his sentences in a title Tiltt.
“We know that we were playing the club World Cup champions,” Neuer told Dazn. “We know that Chelsea was in good shape. But we are also in good shape – we used the momentum to our advantage.
“If you play for Bayern, you always want to win, and that includes the Champions League. That is always the goal.
“We have to go step by step. First we look to finish in the top eight, and then we go to the knockouts, all the way to the final.”

Neuer’s sentiment was reflected by Joshua Kimmich, who told reporters: “Our energy is there, you can feel it. It is important that we stay on our path, regardless of the result.
“Not everything was perfect today, especially at the start of the second half, but by the end the team did very well again.”
Kane has started the season in a fantastic form and already registers 13 targets in all competitions.
His brace against Chelsea took his count of Champions League goals for Bayern to 21. The former Tottenham star is only the third player who scores 20+ goals for two different clubs in the competition, after Cristiano Ronaldo (105 for Real Madrid, 21 for Manchester).
“Physically and mentally, this is the best I have ever felt,” said the captain of England.
“In this team I know I’m going to get opportunities. I just have to keep taking them like I did tonight.”
Bayern will try to make two victories of two when they go to Cyprus to take on pafos on September 30.
