The men’s and women’s hockey at the Olympics still has a strong BU flavor.
Macklin Celebrini scored twice—the first after a penalty shot—and added an assist in Canada’s 10-2 loss to France to clinch the #1 spot in the men’s medal round. He became the first NHL player to score on a penalty kick at the Olympic Games. With four goals and two assists in three games, he is tied for the top of the tournament and also sets a new record for goals by a teenager at the Olympics with NHL players, passing defenseman Olli Maata, who scored three goals for Team Finland in Sochi in 2014.

Brady Tkachuk picked up his third point of the Olympics, an assist, in Team USA’s 5–1 victory over Germany. He is tied with his brother Matthew for the team’s lead in plus/minus at +5. Jack Eichel has four points (G,3A) and is +3. Clayton Keller saw his first match action in the win against Germany.
The US, which reached number 2 medal round seed, and Canada will await the results of Tuesday’s qualifying round to find out who they will meet in the quarterfinals. If the two favorites win the quarter-finals and semi-finals, they will meet in the gold medal match on Thursday.
In the women’s semi-finals, Marie-Philip Poulin scored both of Canada’s goals in a 2–1 win against Switzerland. Now in her fifth Olympics, Poulin set a new career record for goals at the Olympics with 20. She will aim for a fifth gold medal in Thursday’s championship match against Team USA, which defeated Sweden 5-0.
BU netminder forms Andrea Brandliplaying in her third Olympics, was a standout, stopping 44 shots to keep Switzerland in the match.

Looking ahead
2026 recruit Caleb Malhotra‘s 26th goal, early in the third period, was the game winner as Brantford defeated Kingston, 3-2. The 6-foot-1 center started the play and then finished it while stumbling outside the crease. He extended his team’s scoring record for a rookie with 68 points.

A consensus of scouts surveyed by OHLProspect.com ranked Malhotra as the OHL’s No. 2 draft prospect. Some of their comments:
“Some scouts believe Malhotra could be the first center taken. His ability to wait out opponents before making a last-second pass into a scoring line is unparalleled. Malhotra is a great skater who plays a strong two-way game and also likes to be physically involved. Malhotra’s hockey IQ is among the best you’ll find in this class, and he’s also a great passer. Scouts still wonder if he can be a first-line center, but the most say at the very least: he will be a second-liner.” -Steven Ellis
He has been a model of consistency on both sides of the puck this season. He has been extremely productive, but his ability to read situations and adapt with ease makes him a real threat. He knows when to attack with his speed, sneaks into open ice unnoticed and can pressure players when he doesn’t have the puck, always putting himself in a great spot to be open. He has the speed to overwhelm defenders in the rush and his vision for the game is excellent; spotting seams with ease, opening lanes to attack and making solid off-look passes to fool defenders. He is a gifted two-way center and produces like one.” – Peter Baracchini
2026 or 2027 recruit Egor Shilov scored his 25 goal in Victoriaville’s 5-2 loss to St. John. With 66 points he is seventh in the Q and leads all rookies.
