A longtime Baltimore Oriole, Mullins spent eight seasons with the club that drafted him in 2015 before being dealt to the New York Mets at the trade deadline last year in exchange for three players. Between the two teams, Mullins posted a .216/.299/.391 slash line with 23 doubles, 17 home runs and 59 RBIs to the tune of a .690 OPS. After the trade, Mullins struggled with the Mets, producing a .565 OPS with a .284 OBP further down the stretch with New York, which ultimately missed the playoffs.
Over his career, the left-handed bat owns a .247/.317/.420 slash line with 103 home runs and a .736 OPS.
#Rays have agreed to terms with OF Cedric Mullins on a one-year contract, pending a physical agreement
As a first-contact player who has patrolled the midfield for most of his career, Mullins’ best season came back in 2021, where he earned All-Star honors and won the Silver Slugger Award. In 159 games, he produced an .878 OPS and a career-high 300 home runs with 30 stolen bases, finishing with a 6.2 bWAR. In 2023, he became the seventh Oriole in franchise history to score for the cycle in a 6–3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
With the Rays, the North Carolina product will join Jake Magnum, Chandler Simpson and Jonny DeLuca for center field reps. In 2025, Tampa Bay used seven different players at the position, including Kameron Misner, who was traded to the Kansas City Royals earlier this winter for a player to be named later.
Mullins is expected to be the Rays’ starting center fielder in 2026.
