Cavaliers exercise contract option on guard Jaylon Tyson – NBA Blog – NBA Basketball Blog

The Cleveland Cavaliers have exercised their third-year team option on guard Jaylon Tyson, Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman announced.

Tyson (6-6, 224) was selected 20th overall by the Cavaliers in the 2024 NBA Draft and played in 47 games (three starts) last season with averages of 3.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in 9.6 minutes per game. He also appeared in eight games for the Cleveland Charge, the Cavaliers’ exclusive NBA G League team, averaging 18.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.4 steals in 34.1 minutes.

In his first career start against New Orleans on November 20 last season, Tyson recorded his first career double-double with 16 points on 7-12 (.583) shooting from the field, a career-high 11 rebounds, a career-high seven assists and two steals in 37 minutes. In that game, Tyson also became the first Cavs rookie to score at least 16 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and two steals since Brad Daugherty on April 7, 1987. Additionally, he scored a career-high 31 points against Indiana on April 13.
