A Tourist from Delhi lost his life in Mussoorie after he got stuck in a huge traffic jam while being taken to the hospital. Kamal Kishore Tandon, a 62-year-old man, had arrived with his family in Mossoic on 5 June and stayed in an apartment on Motilal Nehru Road.
According to his cousin, Arjun Kapoor, Tandon suddenly became sick in the midst of bad weather and heavy rainfall. The family decided to take him to the nearby Landour Community Hospital.
Initially they called for an ambulance through the 108 emergency service, but were told that it would take almost an hour to get from Dehradun. Leaved without a choice, the family arranged their own vehicle and tried to take him to the hospital. However, the narrow roads of Mossoed were hidden with traffic, including different pace travelers and other tourist vehicles, which led to a huge jam.
Local residents and police staff tried to free up the jam, but it took almost 45 minutes to make room. By the time the family reached the hospital, it was too late – Kamal Kishore Tandon died on the way.
The family has blamed poor traffic management in Mussooria for the tragic loss. Arjun Kapoor said: “We came here for a vacation, but we are now coming back with a body. The administration and tourism department must learn from this incident to ensure that no other family should suffer as we did.”
Mussoorie Circle Officer Manoj Aswal confirmed the incident and stated that police officers quickly reached the scene and even tried to administer CPR. He urged tourists to immediately call 112 in an emergency and to ensure that the police would offer all possible help.
