Miami – Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns supported his manager while the team stumbled by the conclusion of the regular season, but will that support continue?
Carlos Mendoza certainly understands why his work status could question, after the Mets lost 4-0 of the Marlins from the Marlins on Sunday to miss the late season through one match.
“Since day 1 when you take this job, you are at the HotSeat,” said Mendoza. “When you manage a team that has many expectations and you go home, such questions will arise and that is part of it. I am responsible and I have to be better.”
Stearns did not speak with reporters after the loss.
He is planned to hold a seasonal media session on Citi Field on Monday.
Mendoza, who has been talking about his contract for another year, said it is too early to assess what should change for next season.
Last season, Mendoza led the Mets to Game 6 of the NLCs and expectations remained high for the team after the arrival of Juan Soto on a record contract and the return from Pete Alonso to the Line -up.
There will also be questions about the status of Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner and touching coaches Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes after both units have performed inconsistently this season.
The pitching was the biggest reason for alarm – with struggles by Kodai Senga, David Peterson and Sean Manaea front and middle.

Senga came to the team again on Sunday, but was not activated.
Mendoza said that Senga and the team would have traveled to Los Angeles if the Mets spent to the wildcard round.
The right -handed spent the last month in the minors after a rough piece that followed on his return of a hamstring injury.
“It comes down to my body,” Senga said through his interpreter. “I couldn’t control my body the way I wanted after the injury and it appeared in the results and it was very disappointing that I couldn’t contribute in the past month.”
The Mets ended the 0-70 season in competitions that they chased after eight innings.
