Five -time large champion Carlos Alcaraz has spent his days off in New York more practicing than just his tennis. The Spaniard was taken to the golf course for a little off-court pleasure during the US Open.
After beating Czech Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon, the 22-year-old will be confronted with the powerful 24-way Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in a spicy semi-final match.
But before his last four collision with the Serbian on Friday, Alcaraz will swing more than his tennis racket, opposite fellow countryman and 2017 Masters Champion, Sergio Garcia, in a Face-Off of Golf.
“It’s something that works well, so why should I change that routine? Every day I try to play some golf,” said Alcaraz, who won the first of his five large titles during the US Open in 2022.
‘Tomorrow I will have a very difficult round against Juanki [Juan Carlos Ferrero] And Sergio Garcia is there. We will discuss tomorrow [how many shots I will get] But he has to give me at least 10 to 15 … I’m not so good, Sergio. Come on! “
“I will try to learn from them. My handicap is now 14. It goes down, but it takes time. I mean, for me it is a privilege to have time to play some golf, to be honest.”
Alcaraz, who said he was starting to play golf at the beginning of 2020, presented his love for the sport during this year’s US Open by celebrating each of his victories with a brutal golf swing.
“I used to go some balls in the Driving Range when I was really, very young. I liked it, but since 2020 I started playing more, to go on the track, playing some holes. I just fell in love with golf,” explained the world no. 2.
“I started playing more and more. I saw myself improving, so it brought me even more to the Golf, and it has me. I just feel very peaceful when I go out and play some golf on the golf course.”
Alcaraz, who has reached the last four on a major without dropping a set for the first time in his career, will be confronted for the ninth time in his career during the semi -final of Djokovic.
Djokovic leads their head-to-head record 5-3 and won their last meeting and a quarterfinals collision on the Australian Open.
Alcaraz defeated Djokovic for the last time in the final of Wimbledon in the 2024 in straight sets.
