West Indies will compete from Group D in the upcoming ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in Namibia and Zimbabwe. For the tournament from January 15 to February 6 next year, the Caribbean side has been drawn together with Tanzania, Afghanistan and South Africa.
The HP Oval will host all three of the regional team’s group matches. They will be in action against Tanzania on the opening day, before taking on Afghanistan three days later and South Africa on January 22.
The format of the competition remains unchanged: the 16 teams will be divided into groups of four for an initial round-robin stage, after which the top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage and then to the semi-finals and finals.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah is confident that this edition, like the previous ones, “will unveil the next generation of icons.”
“From Brian Lara and Sanath Jayasuriya to Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith and Shubman Gill, the event has consistently shaped the future of our sport,” he said.
West Indies are currently locked in battle with England in a seven-match Youth One-Day International series in preparation for the tournament.
