According to reports, Washington Capitals forward and Team Canada selection Tom Wilson is officially listed as an everyday player following an injury. He won’t play tonight, but it appears the team has dodged a major bullet, and there is no fear that Wilson won’t be available for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

According to various updates, there is nothing overly serious. Wilson (lower body) is day-to-day, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery said. Aliaksei Protas (lower body) skated this morning and is a game-time decision tonight.

Carberry said:

“Yes. When someone goes down or is helped off the ice, you hope it’s just something where they can go in, get checked out and come back out. But also when you see situations like that, you get a little worried when someone can’t put weight on their leg, like ‘Willy’ in that scenario. So your thoughts go to, ‘Oh dear, is this something bad?’ So I’m grateful that it’s just a day-to-day thing and he’s not playing tonight, but we’ll see how he goes tomorrow.”

Fortunately, Wilson is doing well, and it’s not for the long term. He took a big hit from Connor Murphy and appears to be injured. Although he was, it is not a serious injury, which shows how strong Wilson is.
