Canucks offer injury update for rookie defenseman Zeev Buium

According to one report by Iain McIntyrelater confirmed by the coach in the media crowd on Tuesday, Vancouver Canucks rookie defenseman Zeev Buium has a broken bone near his cheek after being hit by a puck on Sunday. He is expected to miss some time.

As a result of the incident, surgery has not been ruled out, but the blueliner will likely be out of action until after the Olympic break. “I really like his toughness,” Foote said. “The doctors don’t think it will be an operation,” but they have to rule it out first before it is 100 percent certain.

Buium went down in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins after being hit by a shot. The Penguins scored on the same series. Luckily, he got up and skated off the ice under his own power, but the news isn’t great.

The 20-year-old defenseman was a centerpiece of the package Vancouver received from Minnesota in the Quinn Hughes trade. The rookie has scored five goals and 20 points in 51 games this season, including six in 20 games since joining the Canucks.
