The announcement by Biathlon Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee on Thursday (Jan. 22) marked the final step in the qualification process for all eight athletes, which also includes numerous IBU World Championships, IBU World Cup and IBU Cup races during the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons.
The team will be led by veteran biathlete Adam Runnalls, who will look to build on the historic result he achieved as part of the men’s relay team at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, achieving the country’s best ever finish of 6th.
“Being named a two-time Olympic team member is one thing A powerful reminder of the dedication and consistency it takes to compete at the highest level of my sport”, Runnalls told the Canadian Olympic Committee. “I am extremely excited to go to Milano Cortina [2026].”
“The race venue is a place where I achieved all my personal bests, which gives me a lot of confidence,” added the 27-year-old from Calgary, Alberta. “I can’t wait to give it everything I’ve got.”
He – and the rest of Team Canada – will look to end a medal drought that dates back to the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics, when Myriam Bédard claimed a memorable pair of gold medals in the women’s sprint and individual events.
“This is a determined group of athletes, combining seasoned experience with youthful energy and drive,” said Biathlon Canada Performance Pathway Manager Clayton Whitman.
“Each of these athletes has achieved success at every stage of their development, and it is inspiring to see them reach the pinnacle of biathlon.”
Biathlon competitions at Milano Cortina 2026 will take place from February 8-21 in the iconic Antholz-Anterselva Biathlon Arena, located in the South Tyrol region of Italy.
