New York-Leylah Fernandez from Canada gathered from a set to beat the France’s Elsa Jacquemot 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the second round of the ladies singles on Wednesday evening in the US Open.
Fernandez, the 31st seed of the tournament and second place from 2021, won only one service game in the first set and claimed only 42 percent of the points on the first service.
The 22-year-old from Laval, Que., Found a rhythm found in the second and third sets, which kept the rest of the road while he broke Jacquemot three times to win the game in two hours 16 minutes.
Fernandez rode through the first round with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Rebecca Marino from Vancouver.
She plays world no. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the third round on Friday. Sabalenka won 7-6 (4), 6-2 about Polina Kudermetova later Wednesday.

The 45-year-old Williams, who won seven Grand Slam Singles trophies and 14 large titles in Doubles, entered the tournament with Fernandez as a wildcard.
They will be confronted in the first round on Thursday with the sixth placed pair of Lyudmyla Kichenok from Ukraine and Ellen Perez of Australia.
Williams appears on her first Grand Slam tournament in two years after making a comeback to Pro Tennis in July after 16 months away from the Tour.
She lost in three sets of Karolina Muchova in the 11th placed in the first round of the ladies singles.
Elsewhere on Thursday, the Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa and partner in it in Routliffe of New – Zeeland – The Third Seeds of the Ladies – Czech team Marketa Vondrousova and Miriam Skoch.
