Canada beats Mexico for fifth place in Montevideo
It was the evening matchup to conclude the slate of 2 August races when Canada and Mexico fought for fifth place in Montevideo. Canada checked the match and took two seconds half goals to win fifth place at the American Cup Pan.
During the first 30 minutes, Canada and Mexico changed opportunities and penalty corner opportunities with Canada in mainly the possession game, but no goals to show it. Both keepers were healthy and the defensive sides shouted. Finally, in the 38one Minute, Canada first struck. Veteran Kat Leah crashed into the circle with a pass through the Chloe Walton who established the ball and hit a backhand attack for the goal.
The Walton Marker left the pressure when Canada breathed a sigh of relief. Canada continued to print with the management. In the fourth quarter, one of the young additions of Canada, Nora Goddard-Despot, a crossed ball in the net, doubled the leadership and securing the victory for Canada. The goalkeepers of Rowan Harris and Marcia Laplante kent a clean slate in fifth place.
Although Canada had hoped to be in the semi -final, fighting for that precious World Cup bid, they will have to reset the batteries, use the positive momentum of this tournament and build the coming World Cup qualifying tournaments. Those events still have to be planned, but will not be double of great fights, because the last places are on the World Cup for the taking.
